The restaurant where I had a very late lunch alone...

... looks so lonely in the photographs.

ADDED: That ketchup and mustard, it's ironic, right? No one actually needs to squirt such mass quantities of ketchup and -- especially -- mustard on their food. Paired up like that, those two bottles symbolize the couples that should be sitting at the tables but are not. The designer of this retro restaurant -- he is taunting me!

These photos are the storyboards for half the Nora Ephron movies ever made!

Are those clouds in your coffee?

If I were a single diner, dining alone, and Bill Clinton approached me.....

...I would not turn him down.

Peace, Maxine

You can it's fall just by light on the ketchup and mustard bottles.

Ah, you're reading Sam Kashner. My father was just telling me about that book!

I'm reading Liz Renay.

You and my father seem more intelligent than I do.

Chuck: I blogged about that book a long time ago, but then I never finished it. Decided to pick it up again.

Love the color scheme . . .

Is it still called a "color scheme" . . .?

Bill Clinton walked into the restaurant. Nodding at the regulars, he walked to the coat rack in the back. He noticed a new girl at the booth by the window. "Hmmm. . ." he thought. "Which approach, which appro . . . 'the Humble'", he decided.

"Excuse me, Miss, but my name is Bill Clinton, and I was wondering if you might not want some short company for dinner, seeing as noone really likes to eat alone in the fall here."

"My name's Maxine. Sit down"

"Thank you. Are those clouds in your coffee?"

What is it about cups of hot liquid in eateries that just makes them so photogenic?

Take my café con leche at Cuban-American mecca, Versailles.

Maybe because a cup of coffee is a promise of warm goodness to come.

Cheers,
Victoria

"Why Mr. Clinton, you're so vain. You probably think this cup is about you, dontcha?"

(laughs, trillingly)

"You have spunk. I like spunk."

(shifts in his seat)

The Potomac glistens its devilish green and greys in the overcast afternoon of a Washington DC day.

Suddenly, a roar erupts behind Maxine and Mr. Clinton.

a) Hillary sweeps in...
b) The earth moved...
c) An apocolyptic fantasy....

I love the Old Fashioned. But I never knew what color it was inside 'til now, 'cause I've only been there after dark.
