You've heard of global warming...

... but now there's cooling... of the Democrats' feet.

Getting cap and trade through during an economic downturn always seems highly unlikely to me.

Where is Enron when we need it?

Mary Landrieu doesn't want money siphoned off to fight global warming until after her $300 million health care bribe check clears the bank.

It's no wonder she has cold feet on cap-n-tax.

When you are having a white Christmas in Dallas, it is hard to sell cap and trade in an recession.

They're just pretending to be reasonable until the 2010 midterms are safely in the bag.

In some sense, aren't we all pretending to be reasonable in order to maximize getting what we want?

I am perfectly happy with Democrats that pretend to be reasonable if it means preventing horrific policy.

Some time ago, I recall predicting on this blog that cap and trade wouldn't pass this Congress and probably wouldn't even come up for a vote. I also said that we'd have a health care reform bill signed up by Christmas. Looks like I was a little off on the timing of the latter, but things seem to be moving along about how I expected.

Another case where a decision isn't being made, but rather is being eased into. The Democrats quoted in the article aren't dropping cap-and-trade, they're just putting it off... for a little while.

If you like cap-and-trade and want it implemented, you might try to call your Democratic congressperson and tell him or her so. And he or she will be able to respond that they do indeed like the idea and that they're on your side and the unfortunate fact is that they just can't implement it right now...

Is anybody in government actually making a decision about anything?

Landrieu opposes cap and trade because it would destroy Louisiana's energy-production economy. Will any Democrat from an energy producing state vote for it?

I would suggest that the Democrats had a chance at passing either health care "reform" or Tax and Bribe (aka Cap and Trade), but not both, given that we are in a recession and both are going to cost us a bundle. They picked health care, and so gave up on carbon.

Well, Pelosi Galore said she didn't want the Honorables voting on anything controversial in 2010.

Guess again. There's that nasty reconciliation vote yet to come on health care. BambiCare isn't quite a done deal yet since The Zero doesn't even want to address it until February. That should put all the Demos' behinds on the line just in time for primary season at the earliest.

PS Ever notice how the Lefties think some folksy cognomen will make people believe their nonsense more readily?

The Dems had some of their biggest donors and fundraisers..ranging from GE to Algore to Soros to Obama's old Chicago commodities mob to Jewish Financiers on Wall Street that worked hard the last 4-6 years to set up the whole carbon brokerage business with themselves as key players poised to rake in billions in commissions.

THAT is what is driving this hard. The Insiders poised to make a mint trying to bully reluctant Senators who fed at their teats to go along, or else. It is closer than people think....billions are at stake to these mega-donors and fundraisers...but on the other hand, Senators and some in the House that were swept with enthusiasm are looking at the Poll numbers after the East Anglia scandal and indeed getting cold feet.

More evidence of the hidden gravitational effects of Climategate. You're going to see a lot of AGW policies "put off for a little while" for reasons that have nothing to do with the real reason -- the underlying fact that no intelligent person who can read believes in human-caused global warming anymore. The evidence of "unprecedented warming" caused by pollution is all gone. It's not politically acceptable to say this yet. So they'll blame their inaction on the economy, on Wall Street, on Bush, on the man in the moon -- anything but Climategate. The wrong people got it right, and the right people got it wrong. So they'll just keep changing the subject until everyone forgets that the issue was ever an issue.

Something is DEAD wrong when our OMG CRISES! responses are measured by legislators answering one question.

"Will this prevent me from getting re-elected?"

No, this may be proof something IS working.

They've screwed up so much and lied and bribed and CYAed for so long and now it's all coming to a head at once and, finally, the constituents they've so long figured they had fooled are showing them how mad they are.

The sad truth is that a campaign of false truths (propaganda) aimed at the people by the authorities usually has a terrible result: the people will act on it one day no matter how wrong and destructive it is to everyone. That is the historical European antisemitism problem in a nutshell. In tha AGW case, we are also nearly collectively driven insane by our government authorities claiming that all human activity causes a deadly crisis until now most people are actually brainwashed into believing the absurd nonsense that the beneficial trace gas called CO2 is a deadly evil CARBON POLLUTANT.

"The sad truth is that a campaign of false truths (propaganda) aimed at the people by the authorities usually has a terrible result".

Agreed, tg, provided that YOU understand "that side you think you support, who is not in power but plays around in Washington" is part of the same "passion play"?

Penny said...

Tg? There is NO PLAY without a protagonist and an antagonist.

Step back, and think about that...

Penny said...

The instructions for participants in this passion play say, "Enter stage right" OR "Enter stage left".

Clearly, we aren't nearly as important as we think we are?

Could it be that noisemakers, like voters, are a dime a dozen?

The restraint on government propaganda is what Tom Jefferson saw as a role of the free press offering its own counter truths to lies from the other side. That is a slow process, but will work among a free press. The shutting down of free publication of counter opinions in a Crisis is what happened in Nazi Germany and in the Global Warming Scam. One way trusts the people's input with decisions and the other way fears popular input and claims that selected educated men have a right to rule over common people. The Shows you refer to are necessary and both sides need a chance to present their Shows and then trust the People. Do you agree? The issue of brainwashing a large population to believe in a Falsehood such as the Blood Libel Antisemitism propaganda implants a terrible seed that has a harvest of shame. The implanted CO2 Libel is as Anti-Human as the Blood Libel story is Anti-Jewish. Both can cause terrible disasters beyond the control of the intended purpose of the Master Liars.

Landreau is gone in 2010. She voted for the tax-payer funded health care bill - the kiss of death.

Tricky socialists are gonna be feelin' it soon.

Let me be clearer, tg.

Americans have come to EXPECT lies from those who want to be our elected officials.

Odder than that, is when we call ourselves "winners" or "losers" based on the success of any of those liars getting elected?

WTF, America?

traditionalguy said...

Penney..Let me be clear. The lying about the other party and their record is expected. The Big Lie technique used by the elected officials as a coordinated deception of the population about a basic fact such as "Jews murder babies" or " CO2 emissions are poison" is another thing altogether. Those authorities are the enemy of humanity.

I'd like to be clear, too. Would yo mind letting me be clear?

Thank you, my fellow Scientologists.

BambiCare isn't quite a done deal yet since The Zero doesn't even want to address it until February.

Actually, the reason there won't be a final vote until February is because the House isn't in session until mid-January, thus making a final vote impossible until February, given the inevitable horse-trading or kabuki theatre (depending on one's perceptions). And no, the little pet names you have for Obama don't make you sound clever, either.

No Senator who wants to be re-elected in a fair election will vote to implement Cap'n Tax.

So Barry was lying when he said he was putting it off until then because he wanted to concentrate on jobs and the overall crappy economic situation?

"And no, the little pet names you have for Obama don't make you sound clever, either."

I don't know about making anyone sound clever, but Barry is clearing deserving of them. The internet may have not originally been meant for mockery but it sure is a great plus.

The next 11 months will be solely spent trying to convince the American public that the congress they've been watching is nothing like the one we think we saw so far.

In other words lying about the lying.

Start picking your replacements and donating to their campaigns.

When I look around the world and see the vast disparity between well run nations and the destitute ones. The main culprit seems to be corruption. This current congress is the most corrupt in my lifetime which includes a larger data set than I would prefer.

The American people need to take their responsibility to their fellow citizens more seriously. Hire quality people and insist on quality if you want quality results. Stop doing what feels good. That's the way 16 year olds choose.

"The wrong people got it right, and the right people got it wrong. "

Well put and don't underestimate the power of that fact. This is acid in the gut of every liberal in the world. It likely will never be admitted outright.
