"'Joey Ramone Place' is perhaps the most stolen of the 250,900 street signs in New York..."

So now, they've installed it higher — 20 feet off the ground. The last surviving Ramone, Marky, thinks it's too hard to see now. It's too high. Maybe they just need "a better way to attach it."

The photo in the NY Post article is priceless. It could be Madison and 68th just as easily as The Bowery and 2nd. And the woman hardly looks like she'd fit in at the old CBGBs for a Ramones show.

Joey R wouldn't recognize the place. How times, neighborhoods and mores have changed.

Maybe put it up across from one of those buildings with a death ray, like in Vegas.

Right now Neitzche seems more important. That is a funny story about signs being hijacked as fast as the City can put them up.

Carve it in the walls, sidewalks, etc.

The Texas Department of Transportation had the same problem with keeping the sign pointing towards Luckenbach on U.S. 290 from being stolen by Waylon Jennings and/or Willie Nelson fans. TxDOT finally gave up, and just left the Farm Road sign there, with no listing of the town down the road, but there's a C-store at the corner where you turn that has it's own painted sign showing drivers where the turn-off is (which is also way too big and out of position to be stolen by anyone).

If I am not mistaken Tommy Ramone, the original drummer, is the last surviving Ramone.

The willingness of city officials to rename streets in favor of this or that celebrity/hero is sometimes a cause of navigational problems. It would be best if they honor people not by changing the street sign, but by carving their name in the sidewalk--it doesn't get stolen and people don't wander around for hours looking for 6th Avenue and not finding it because the sign says "Avenue of the Americas."

They should also require businesses to use their actual address rather than sell them the vanity address of a nearby tony street.

According to Wikipedia, three of the four original members of the Ramones have all died, with Tommy still being alive. All four replacements over the years are still alive: Marky, Richie, Elvis and C.J..

(I can't stand them, but was curious.)

Imagine being so thoughtless as to steal a sign, you'd have to be a teenage lobotomy or something.

I keep thinking "Wouldn'the want the sign stolen? Isn't that the Ramone thing to do?"

What they did in Liverpool in places like Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields was to paint the name of the street on corner buildings at about the same height as a normal street sign, and looking as much as possible like the normal street signs. No more problems with stealing.

The High Street sign in Highwood, Illinois was stolen again and again in the 70's so they finally put it up high (about 15 feet).

After she (sort-of) expressed her admiration for Boone's Farm yesterday, I'm worried that Althouse has been causing sign trouble in Georgia.

Was she also a fan of Joey, when she lived in NY?

I have never wanted to steal anything more in my entire life.
