"If You’re Thinking About….Black Socks, Black Shoes."

A possible trend... or just something Sartorialist has been seeing...

I'd say black socks, black shoes is a poor girl's short black boots. Except the girl's not poor, so it's a humorous commentary on poverty.

Looks to me like a poor girl's birth control. Do I have to pay for those?

Bag, that was funny.

After Romney wins look for the fashion trends to head toward the ivy league look.

I'm glad no one really dresses like that.

They look like Confederate infantry.

From the ankles down.

The Sartorialist frequently makes me want to gag. But, then I wear Crocs.

Is Satorialist sycophancy as bad as Urkel Sycophancy?

Do they reflect up?

I've been seeing this a lot with white socks, too.

I think it looks more childish than poor. Though in some sense I'd be happy to see it stick--these shoes can be extremely uncomfortable without socks.

Ha! Oh, it's awful, the worst.

Someone once pointed out that the Sartorialist commenters are basically just link whores, and that's as good an explanation as any, I suppose.

That black socks black shoes look is awful.

Probably only a few catlikkers here.

Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?

Great book, Pogo.

The only theory that explains Sartorialist to me is that it is straight-out satire.

The reason you don't read much dissent on the Sartorialist is that Scott (or his people) censor the comments before they are posted. I know because it happens to me whenever I say something negative. Not cruel, mind you, just negative. I guess he had his negative quota for the day.

Well I wasn't a fan of those pictures. One or two could get away with it...at work...but the black socks and sandals! No! Bad dresser! Bad! Bad sandals!

I'm not a fetishist, but the one shoe that a woman wears that really punches my buttons is a small white tennis shoe with white anklet socks on the end of a long tan leg. Think Anna Kournikova. That smooth firm thigh...ZOMG!!!!!!!!!('scuse me. I gotta' clean up ahhh....ahhh....I spilled something. BRB)

With Black Scholes a girl has more options. (Lame, but there are very few opportunities for financial humor...)

Zounds. I actually like the look and on my "all black" mood days have been known to wear the ensemble. My husband thinks they make my legs look fat so that is a deterent of sorts.

Stephen Potter recommends black socks for tennismanship.

White shoes though.

I'd say your take on the look is completely nutty.

Except for the one with the socks and sandals--always a bad idea--I think these all look very handsome. And I have seen "real people" wear this look, Iggyrules.

Just once I'd like to see a woman on The Sartorialist who's holding a big digital camera and a stubby little cigarette.

It's very Depression-WWII looking to me, when women were either too poor to buy stockings or they aren't available because of the war effort. It reflects our depressed era. But I do like it better than the stilletto-platform shoes that are so ugly and make women's feet look like Minnie Mouse's. And I've never seen anyone walk gracefully in them.

Great legs. Who cares about the socks? Focus, man!

Besides, I wear black socks and black shoes every single friggin day when I pretend to be a lawyer. Nobody says nothin bout my legs though. Until I wear shorts on the weekend with socks and Birks and embarrass my kids.

Birkenstocks should be collectively burned and the company razed to the ground.

Cookie! How mid-20th century German of you! But I suppose you'd let the people get out of them first.
