"Using technology developed to find aliens, it’s saving lives on Earth."

FWIW, After 9-11, the folks from Harris were asked to come to NYC with some black boxes. They hiked for a week over the rubble, 'dowsing' for cell phones. Each phone was pinging the nearby cell towers reporting its presence.

find a phone, find a body...

It's actually a DHS project to find people who are hiding.

It's actually a DHS projec

as a front for SOCOM's 'people finder' project. Imagine Delta Force doing a hostage rescue. Knowing where the humans are in the next room without opening the door is huge...

Which is why Republicans are cutting NASA's budget: Because they are anti-science and don't want life-saving things like this discovered.

They aren't cutting NASA's budget. They're directing the money be used on space work and not Earth science like climate change. That isn't in NASA's purview.

Like Larry said, Obama's priority missions to NASA have nothing directly to do with you know... space...just politics.

The NASA Chief:

"When I became the NASA administrator, (President Obama) charged me with three things," Bolden said in the interview which aired last week. "One, he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math; he wanted me to expand our international relationships; and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math and engineering."

How do we know that the lives that were saved were men and not aliens?

So snipers hidden in the weeds and waiting out his target can easily be located using NASA satellites. Very interesting.

Because Earth is not in Space.

I like Marshall Shepherd's take on NASA cuts. Is there another planet we're likely to go to?

So how does saving lives in Nepal help Muslims feel better? Let's stop this sentimental charade and focus on our main goal.

@ MadisonMan

NASA admits this technology cannot find buried Republicans after an earth quake because they're heartless.

Do we know that for a fact? The four people it found may have indeed been aliens. And not the cute, cuddly, south-of-the-border kind. The scaly, three-eyed, ET in disguise kind.

Sure, but how many lives were saved by fashion?

Yes.

They aren't cutting it, they are shifting spending priorities from Climate Change bullshit, to manned exploration of space.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is actually going to do space stuff?

Get out.

Rusty: "The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is actually going to do space stuff?"

Maybe it would make more sense to some if we simply said NASA was going to actually do some "shovel ready" space stuff?

Wow!

The Republican Party is full of people who have too much time on their hands (witness the latest nonsense coming out of the State Assembly here). It's too bad they don't study science, but Science is hard.

Which is why NASA should stick to what its good at.

Sounds like somebodys apportion of the public goodies is being audited.

No it's not. Just shout slogans and place ideologues at the head of scientific institutions that are, after all, political institutions, and you have your science all perfect and ready for liberals to believe every word.

What else matters?

The case for Global warming is conjectural and weak, by weak, I mean full of gaping holes. The best arguments for it are rhetorical.

Science *is* hard. You know what else is hard? Accepting the fact that we don't know something important. That's how religions all get born. People can't accept not knowing stuff. Global Warming alarmism is one more religion.
