"As Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush get more testy, Donald Trump gets more chesty."

That was written by Maureen Dowd.

And:
It is a fable conjured up in several classic movies: A magnetic, libidinous visitor shows up and insinuates himself into the lives of a bourgeois family. The free spirit leaves, but only after transforming the hidebound family, so that none of them can see themselves the same way again....
Yeah, but what if he won't leave?

ADDED: "Chesty" is a funny word. I looked it up in the (unlinkable) Oxford English Dictionary, and see it identified as "U.S. slang," meaning "Conceited and self-assertive; having one's chest thrust out as a sign of self-importance." The examples are all from the first half of the 20th century: "His school reputation..may have had the effect of enlarging his self-esteem. He may have been a bit chesty, as it is known in the vernacular of the campus." (1903, New York Sun.)  "George was a little bit chesty, because all the girls around were making eyes at him." (1950, A. Lomax, "Mister Jelly Roll.")

If you knew the pleasure we take from your squirming, Ann, I wonder if you'd continue to beat this horse. Why don't you find another sitcom to nitpick? That's about your speed.

Just watching Fox News Sunday rerun and I bleive this is the first time I have seen a fully natural human expression of Shannon Bream's face. Ellem Tauscher's defense of Hillary!'s email practices just flat out dumbfounded her.

Why is it stranger that Donald Trump should make peace between North- and South Korea than that Bill Richardson should?

Richardson just came out for Hillary!, BTW.

My guess is that watching all that porn has warped Ms. Dowd's take on things.

Bush had been impulsive and reckless, so voters wanted someone who was thoughtful and deliberative.

Axelrod is still spinning for the Great Barack. I assert that Bush's lead-up to the Iraq War was far from impulsive, but it certainly was decisive. I'm still trying to figure out who could be dumb enough to believe that Obama the ditherer could be mistaken for thoughtful or that his procrastination could be mistaken for deliberative.

I have no idea why Trump is worse than Jeb! or Hillary! or God forbid, Obama.

pm317 said...

Would you have liked him better if he read (polished sounding) stuff from a teleprompter?

Hagar said...

You are wrong, Big Mike. Obama is both thoughtful and deliberative; it is just that he is going in quite a different direction than most of us would think of.

I'm taking back everything I said about Nichevo in the earlier thread.

It was purely for rhetorical purposes, Nichevo. No harm, no foul?

@Hagar, Obama is for Obama (and whoever he is working for) and he is doing that very well (almost with diabolical intent). And there is nothing in it for the country or its people.

Big Mike said...

@Hagar, you're correct only insofar as Obama goes in his own direction. He is a ditherer, and that's all he's ever been or ever will be.

Hagar said...

A very successful ditherer.
Just look at the way he has established Iran in the Middle East.

Big Mike said...

@Hagar, that has been Valerie Jarrett's goal (born in Shiraz, spent her formative years in Iran, and speaks fluent Farsi) and not necessarily Obama's.

Trump as Monty Woolley?

Trump as Juliette Binoche?

Trump as Johnny Depp/Edward Scissorhands?

Sorry, forgot one: Trump as Marlon Brando on a motorcycle?

Are Hillary and Jeb showing any signs of transformation? I think not.

Meanwhile, Jordy Nelson has injured his knee in a non-contact injury on the Steelers crappy field. Probably torn ACL.

When Trump is lauded as the super-ego -- telling us what we should and shouldn't do -- only then he will become the Freudian Trinity.

They seem to be enjoying their political free fall. Think about it, they're both in place only because of familial connections. Maybe they both want out?

He actually sought and got a declaration of war from Congress. What did Obama (and Hillary)do before Libya? What Kind of mess did they leave there?

By what Dowd doesn't say confirms she still has a thing for Obama.

Hagar said...

Both Bushs' lead ups to war in Iraq were a lot like Victor Borge's routine about an automobile accident in an opera.

Big Mike said...

@kcom, not to mention Bush creating an alliance of something on the order of 30 nations in support of our assault on Saddam Hussein.

@Hagar, got a link?

Totally appropriate, Maureen, totally appropriate.

Donald will be Donald's downfall. (As will Hillary be Hillary's downfall) Hubris catches up with you.

Hum. Well, there is also Chesty Puller. Great Marine. Could she be comparing Trump to Puller. Both fighters. Both flamboyant. Interesting comparison.

By the by, not a fan of Trump either.

Dang it, LYNNDH!
I was just about to mention Chesty Puller.
And now I am bested...

I read somewhere that high school bullies generally go on to lead long, happy lives and that their victims lead a far shorter, stress filled existence......It's mostly in literature and movies that hubris precedes a tragic fall. In real life, hubris leads to a recording contract and marriage to a supermodel.

Obamas policies have driven down the price of coal and coal stocks. Peabody (BTU) went from 90 dollars a share to a dollar a share. Whereupon George Soros bought up many billions of dollars worth of Peabody stock.
So you might say that Obama works for George Soros.

Chesty LaRue (who is a real person) was also a reference from the Simpsons when Homer legally changes his name to Max Power. It's what he decides to change Marge's name to.
