"Good news for our beloved sodomite whorehouse: The Westboro Baptist Church will be paying us a long-overdue visit this Thursday at 11 a.m."

"Apparently, University of Wisconsin’s ranking as one of the most LGBT-friendly campuses in the nation was the last straw on the camel’s back, plunging us into the depths of indecency, blasphemy and hedonism....  It is exceedingly difficult to pass up the opportunity to taunt them, take photographs or attempt to strike up conversation in the hopes that perhaps maybe one of the many will come to their senses. But... to interact with their message is to confirm that it is a valid opinion which warrants discussion. But it’s not. To partake in these conversations is not constructive dialogue. Their message doesn’t deserve to be dignified."

From "Complete apathy is best strategy for dealing with Westboro Baptist Church/Hate group relies on antagonizing pedestrians to fund twisted agenda" in The Badger Herald.

(That phrase "sodomite whorehouse" comes from the church itself: "WBC will protest the sodomite whorehouse masquerading as the University of Wisconsin-Madison in religious protest and warning. Ranked the top LGBT friendly and the top party school in the nation, UW-Madison spends more time indoctrinating the drunken students to worship the fag agenda then to learn anything meaningful.")

Imagine some woman who looks at Fred Phelps, and swoons; he's so lovely it brings tears to her eyes. He's still there but she pre-misses him. Imagine she makes decisions based on that. Do you respect her?

I have to admit it takes great self-restraint to not smash these bum's faces in. All the same either you believe in free speech or you don't.
Incidentally the Phelps are registered Democrats.

You talk like being a distinguished institution of higher education AND a sodomite whorehouse are mutually exclusive.

I like the idea of a then/than with distinction but yet both fitting into a proper potential reading from different points of view.

This could be real Rorschat stuff if I could just think of a functionable sentence.

It's like how if you could find a "begs the question" that raises a question obvious whilst using a premise to justify a resulting circular theory.

Or I could use Begs for Begley!

What Then Begs The Question Again?

Click on the Westboro Church tag and scroll to get to the posts about an earlier WBC visit to Madison. Meade interacts with them and gets video. They don't deserve the attention, and if you get mad, you are a fool. Meade does well and isn't played for a fool.

Now, now, the Westboro gang does have its purposes. There are few things in America that pretty much everyone agrees is detestable. They are uniters, not dividers!

I love free speech! Go on Westboro Baptist Church.

Do they chase down and beat Trump supporters? Firebomb anybody? Shoot any cops? Not that bad, eh?

Hard to argue with this.

Isn't picking on the Westborough people punching down? Who defends Westborough BC? What have they done other than say they don't like your behavior? They are certainly not in a position of power over anyone at UW.
If the members of Westborough BC were Black, would they be treated differently by Badger Herald journalists?
The Badger Herald should be asking questions like this. They are learning nothing useful as journalists, and performing no useful function, by joining the 'Westborough BC is yucky' crowd.

The Westboro people are a fringe group. I don't think their actions put homosexuals into disrepute. Rather their actions put Christians into disrepute. I suppose that's why this handful of nuts gathers this much publicity.

I've lost count of the number of times I've seen the media blatantly lie and refer to these Democrat loons as Republicans and right wingers.

You all should be entertaining a diverse point of view.
You wont let any conservatives in, and for that this is your punishment. Or perhaps the beginning of the punishments.

What would be great is if the Badger Herald went after someone or some group that was sympathetic with campus groups and treated them with the same contempt that they express for the westborough people. As it is, the Badger Herald journalists seem to be fortunate in that they only feel ethically obligated to hate people who are unpopular with UW students, faculty, and administration.
It's kind of like in high school, when you are so lucky that none of your friends are unpopular.

Cubanbob is correct, they are democrats and actually one of the top civil rights law practices in Kansas. They are also the top Democrat go to firm to harass Kansas Republican officials.

Yes. There is no end to the depravity that the she-devil will support.

Why would anybody found an anti-sodomy whorehouse? I don't think they know what those words mean.

Also, if WBC is in Madison, that means Wisconsin is within the margin of fraud and WBC will increase student turnout. This is coordinated, no less than the O'Keefe recording guys.

Lewis Wetzel said...

I think that like the worst thing would be if you walked into a Westboro Baptist Church meeting, and they were all grunting and sodomizing each other, and you said "Hey! Stop that!"
Because then you would be just as bad as they are.

A few years ago I read an article about the Church. At the time it was reported the entire congregation is only about 15 people, one family and a few friends. In NYC every single day there are protests. Crowds of 5,000+ routinely do not even make the news. Yet this tiny group of people is known nationwide. It really demonstrates the power of media to pick and choose the agenda.

The Phelps are pros in propaganda and the media likes to use then as an example how backward flyover country and fundamentalist are. But, the truth is that in Topeka, Kansas at 10th & Gage the Westboro church demonstrates almost constantly and there are five times more protesters against them. It's sort of a carnival atmosphere.

Truth is they are all very smart lawyers and nice folks when you meet them. Just don't talk politics or religion with them.

Meanwhile, it's come out that the LGBT groups were the ones that ended the Big 12 expansion by publicly bullying them and promising law fare if they admitted BYU; who was clearly one of the top candidates.

So the Big 12, being cowards, said "no" to BYU. And once that happened, there was no appetite left for expansion.

Because LGBT issues are more important than sports to an athletic league. It's totally disgraceful how the LGBT groups are bullying people.

I don't like the WBC. But they have little to no influence. Everyone mocks them and now it appears that they are just a Democrat group anyway. The LGBT groups, however, are fully engaged in a campaign of persecution. How is that acceptable?

Well elect Hillary and we will get what our "sodomite whorehouse" country deserves. And it won't be good at all.

Trump? Hell, in crookedness he is light years behind the Clintons. Sure he talks dirty, but Bill and Hill are dirty, for real.

So go ahead "sodomite whorehouse" USA. Vote for Hillary. Actions do have consequences.

This morning on NPR they interviewed one of their 4 chosen voters for debate response. The voter was an openly gay man, which means that he represents less than two percent of the population, and his entire worldview depended on his being a member of that < 2%. He said so, explicitly. The guy was from Orlando, and he was 100% behind Hillary because of her support of common-sense gun control (Trump is against common sense gun control? Who knew?) and the Orlando gay nightclub mass killing a few months ago. The words "iIlam" and "Muslim" were not mentioned. Then the guy went into a spiel about how although he was a white male, being gay made him identify with minorities and women more than straight men.
I would have thought it great comedy if the interviewer had asked him about his sympathy for Muslims.
