"Malia Obama's Harvard boyfriend revealed to be British student Rory Farquharson who was head boy at Rugby School."

That's very nice. Good luck to the lovely couple.

ADDED: Jeez, how do you pronounce that name? It's pronounced just how it's spelled, Farquharson.

"Rugby School was the birthplace of Rugby football.[4] In 1845, three Rugby School pupils produced the first written rules of the "Rugby style of game".[4]"

Cool.

Wait, they still admit white men at Harvard?

As an anglophile I support this. Let's hope the happy couple are secret reactionaries.

It appears Malia has no interest in a political career.

And she is smoking, just like her father.

From the link: "His Twitter account also suggests he is a vocal critic of current US president Donald Trump, retweeting a post which suggested Mr Trump's "populism" was unlikely to last more than a year."

Group think abounds if he's invited to share the Obama turkey.

Is this the guy from the Shrek movie? How tall is he?

Big Mike said...

@Sebastian, note that he is NOT a white American goy.

I note that he believes American populism will not last more than a year. I hope we Americans can prove him wrong.

That's what I was thinking and then I saw the video.

Yeah, but does he kneel for "God Save the Queen"?

Ann Althouse said...

It's a reverse engineering of the relationship between Stanley Ann Dunham and Barack Obama Sr.

Yancey Ward said...

His anti-Trump tweets are a well designed "Getting Laid" maneuver in this case. Bravo, Rory!

Cute couple. Surprised Harvard and Yale still have football teams.

The first time he passes out drunk at a frat party, though, his friends will take a photo of him in a MAGA hat.

"Surprised Harvard and Yale still have football teams."

Some would argue they don't.

She should vape. It's not as harmful.

Nice looking couple. I hope their relationship is a long and happy one. If they stay together, marry and have children, I can imagine the children being adorable, his round face and her long face, the kids will have the perfect oval face and a lovely shade of golden skin. I guess Malia isn’t one of those dasterdly feminists who hate men. Her daddy was a good role model for her future husband.

Knowing of British pronunciations, it's probably pronounced "Fahson".

jwl said...

Considering how the Brits say Worcestershire sauce, surname would be something like Farson.

Since we’re offering our wishes, good luck to the lovely couple, but lay off the fuckin cigarettes.

A video shows Miss Obama smoking a cigarette and smiling before putting her arms around the young man.

Wow, gross. Her parents must be so proud.

They say the two smartest Presidents in the 20th century were Herbert Hoover and Jimmy Carter. IQ doesn't correlate with a successful presidency......,In the latter part of the 20th century, the Obamas seem to have had the most successful marriage among the Dems. No correlation between a successful marriage and a successful presidency either. Still, their kids look happy and balanced. I think congrats go to the Obamas for their children and parenting skills........,The extended Bush family seem to all have happy marriages, give or take a fanny pinch or two. Again, their happy marriage didn't carry over into their presidency. Happy marriages are overrated politically. Unhappy marriages build character and skills in subterfuge and negotiation. The Dem politicians with unhappy marriages have been the most successful politically.

"note that he is NOT a white American goy." Careful, Big Mike. Next you're gonna tell us that a bunch of white males can be diverse. Apple will tell you to think different.

There's nothing worce than how Brits say Worcestershire.

she'll play with the white boy(s), then marry a black guy for the career boost, just like her father

Very POSH. Malia may not be political (or she may, I don't know her and don't care to), but she seems to be setting herself up for a nice limousine liberal lifestyle with her Monty Python punchline of a boyfriend. she's a lovely young lady who will lead a very privileged life.

Are you saying that Obama was engineered? That's high-level conspiracy thinking

Stanley Ann Dunham and Barack Obama Sr.

.....or perhaps it was Frank Marshall Davis.

MathMom said...

She's dating a BRIT??? After her father evicted the bust of Sir Winston from the White House because, uh, BRIT???

I don't care what Malia does, as long as it doesn't have to do with politics.

The name is in my extended family. Everyone pronounces it FAR-kus-sin.

@Sebastian There won't be white men much longer if the Asians and the DOJ have their way!

Daniel Jackson said...

Regardless of pronunciation, it's seriously pretentious.

Those old Scottish names can be tricky. For instance, Menzies is pronounce Mingus. In my old neighborhood Farquharson would be Fuckerson.

AllenS said...

Something tells me that if Malia were to start dating LaVar Ball's shoplifting son, Barry might not... or, well, sorta, kinda... not know what to say. He should watch his mouth, and for good reason, because if he didn't, Michelle would kick his scrawny ass.

Trumpit said...

I think the well wishes of "Good luck to the lovely couple," should be reserved for a more longstanding relationship with a likely future together. This may be nothing more than a youthful fling or dalliance. Malia is not demonstrating much good sense by smoking.

Trumpit said...

"I don't care what Malia does, as long as it doesn't have to do with politics."

Maybe, she'll be U.S president one day. There is no bar to that.

My great-grand uncle John Lillywhite, was the cricket coach at Rugby and introduced the rules of Rugby in 1854 in his Cricket Anthology. From the Rugby ball we made the Lillywhite Model J football that was used in the first American collecge football game between Princeton and New Jersey or today's Rutgers in 1863.

MathMom said...

"Maybe, she'll be U.S president one day. There is no bar to that."

True. But she won't get there with my vote. There have been enough Obamas in positions of authority for all eternity, IMHO.

MacMacConnell said...

I don't know if Malia is a nice girl or not, but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and wish her good luck.

Ivy league schools have to have football teams, it was invented there.

Barack Obama had interracial relationships too, Althouse. Something I've surmised from the biographic material we have available is that he decided he needed to be more authentically black, perhaps to advance his career. He seems to have ended at least one relationship for that reason. It worked!

I'd like to have a history of Michelle Obama in the White House. She had a hard time early on with the shopping trips to Europe and unscripted comments. I believe that Barack Obama said or did something that caused all that to stop. She turned into a completely conventional First Lady who never said anything that didn't have to do with school lunches or reading.

Maybe we'll find out someday. The compromises people make to be successful interest me. Someday we may find out Trump is a frustrated artist.
