Samantha Power and the "pale, Irish statue."

From "Samantha Power: Hosting election-night party to celebrate Clinton victory was one of my many 'bad ideas'" (Washington Examiner):
Power said she is “haunted most” by images of her children on the night of the election, who spent much of the night running around her apartment. When the election was called for Trump, though, Power said her daughter, who was 4 years old at the time, was “just lying in my lap, kind of like this pale, Irish statue.”

“And there’s something about the way she’s lying, I don’t know, that just makes her look like she’s the one who’s going to inherit … she’s going to inherit this—what he does is on her, right?” Power said.
I'm musing over the ethnicity and the calling of our attention to the whiteness of the child's skin. What can it be but a mother's love for her own little child? And yet, if a conservative were to tell us of his reaction to the election of a liberal in terms of a haunting memory of gazing at his child's very white skin, he would be called a racist.

This past election was America standing in front of the liberal freight train, yelling stop! I did not want my grand kids inheriting your ideals, Ms. Power. That thought was apparently shared by a host of others.

Samantha Powers should be in prison for the Unmasking scandal......Why does a UN Ambassador have to do the unmasking anyways??? To keep Obama and Hillary scandal free if caught????

Out of curiosity, is Power John Kerry's love child?

I am surprised Samantha Power wants to admit to having such bad ideas. Such a narcissistic conception of History, throwing a victory party (before the event! Has she never heard of hubris?!?). Throwing it for a creature like HRC (or DJT) is narcissistic. Inviting all these special guests to watch you gloat as you watch your candidate gloat? Narcissistic. Telling us how sad you are because your stupid idea failed to match reality? Narcissistic. Using your child as a Symbol for some half-developed Deep Prophecy that you insist on telling your readers? Narcissis...ah, to heck with it.

With people like Power in charge for eight years, no wonder we have been stuck on stupid.

The more we see of these people the more vile they look.

Power and her libs friends had an election night party that turned into a Trump rout. Epic fail!!

Maybe Power should throw a "Let's Boycott the SOTU Address" party. They could serve Russian vodka, drink of out Hitler mugs, pass out Stalin biographies, all the while watching "One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest". It would well be attended by Dem congress critters.

BTW, when was the last time any R's boycotted a Dem SOTU?

Pity the child. "Teach your children well..." apparently Power proves the sins of the mother are bestowed on the child. Hillary had Chelsea...we see how that worked out. Imagine how hard it is to look into your child's eyes and see your failure...I could be haunted by the vision of those female workers for Hillary in disbelief, crying and in shock when it became clear she had lost the election. These apparatchiks are a threat to themselves and civilized society.

So she's back with "Duty to Protect" then?

Buy the little girl a pink snatch hat and give her an SEIU placard to carry. Teach her "Heigh-Ho, Trump has to go" and give her some reefer brownies. That will immunize her against the evils of Trump.

Then, the pale Irish statue said "Hillary Clinton will never be President of the United States. I couldn't believe she had come from my loins.

Mom, didn't Hillary Pickles commit up to one million felonies--assuming every email was a felony under the law that took effect when Obama was inaugurated and every classified message counted, at least, as one additional felony, more if it wasn't handled properly?

Imagine the poor child growing up with the knowledge that you can even be married to a former president, and still the country is too sexist to elect you.

tim in vermont said...

I mean, Hillary did everything right. She found a tall handsome man in college. Since he was over six feet tall, left handed, and Ivy League educated, her chances of him becoming president were very good (Look it up, you know Hillary did). She fought off all those floozies who were after her man, (Fist City was dedicated to her) She said yes when NYS handed her the Senate seat.

So now Samantha Power’s little girl is going to grow up knowing that if she snags a powerful man at an elite university, it might not be enough to overcome America’s deep rooted sexism.

I'd like to watch Gloria Steinem and Madeline Albright move from buoyancy to clinical depression. Too bad she didn't videotape the event. It would be a big money maker on You Tube. I feel sorry for Harvey Weinstein---masturbating in front of Gwyneth Paltrow when life has so many more exquisite and refined pleasures to offer......There's not enough novelistic detail in the piece. Did Gloria tear at her hair or Madeline rend her clothes? Did they fall to the floor sobbing or did they collapse into each other's arms. I'd like to read less about the child and more about Gloria. She was ready for her close up.

HBO had a crew there, they were going to show it as a special. It is now deep in a secret vault somewhere. You can't give conservatives anything to watch and laugh at every anniversary of the election--like that Maddow tape.

On the night of Nov. 8, 2016, Power threw a party for the 37 female diplomats at her apartment in New York City, a scene that is captured in the new HBO documentary, “The Final Year."

Wait a minute—in 2008 Samantha thought Hillary! was a horrible person:

"She is a monster, too – that is off the record – she is stooping to anything," Power was quoted as saying.

"You just look at her and think, 'Ergh,' " Power also said. "But if you are poor and she is telling you some story about how Obama is going to take your job away, maybe it will be more effective. The amount of deceit she has put forward is really unattractive."

tim in vermont said...

Hillary’s corruption was all “off the record” too.

That's because most conservatives are not racists, so it's a surprise when one is

But essentially all members of the Left are racists, so pointing out that one is is like pointing out that water is wet.

("Affirmative action" == government imposed racism. Skin color based "diversity" / "identity politics" are straight up pure racism)

The article you linked omits the portion of the Power interview guaranteed to induce an eight-hour schadenboner:

“I decided on election night to invite the 37 women ambassadors to the U.N., many of whom face struggles in their own foreign service, or at the U.N. of a kind that, as an American, I never did. And I thought what an amazing night for them. I mean, that’s what America represents to the world, when a glass ceiling is shattered in our country, it creates a whole new sense of possibility for people everywhere.

“And so, I invited them. Most of them came, and we gathered with Madeleine Albright, our first woman secretary of state; Gloria Steinem, who is not only an icon here, of course, but all around the world, and we went through the same process, if you want to call it that, that so many people did at their election parties. As the host, I was kind of hoping it wouldn’t be quite the blowout that it was anticipated to be, because I wanted to make sure that people had a chance to interact with Gloria Steinem, and one of—

“So, your concern was that actually that the evening was going to be over early.”

“Too soon. I wanted to milk the soft power dividend of this moment, and instead, and HBO was there, I guess unfortunately or fortunately, to capture it all, but instead, you really see what so many people went through, which was all of that sense of promise and excitement, and frankly, a dose of complacency. And then, it slowly dawning on us that not only was this going to be much closer than anybody anticipated, but that it was not going to end well.”

I think it's sick how some people will use their children to advance their politics. They either indoctrinate their children in a way that the children can understand (i.e., good vs. evil), or they lie about their children's true feelings to score some political point. "Oh, my young child was so sad at the election results, even at her age she knows we elected a literal Nazi who colluded with Putin to oppress all women and people of color!" "Trump is so evidently evil and bad that children can sense the danger he poses to everyone and everything." "THINK OF THE CHILDREN."

No matter what, it's bad. Children should not be thinking of one candidate as bad and the other as good. The "bad" candidate might win and become that child's president. Do these parents not realize how frightening it would be for a child to think the president of the United States is an unhinged racist who might start a global nuclear war, killing everyone?

Sure, they're doing that by making the lead character in A Wrinkle In Time black. Can't see why they wouldn't do something similar when they make Truth To Power or whatever lame name they come up with for her biopic.
