And the viral diavlog hits...

... the NYT.

Yeah, I saw it there earlier this morning.

miller said...

I even registered so I could make a comment on an unrelated thread I found there.

Me. Registered with the NYT.

Next I'll be wearing an Obama button.

Nice editing by the NYT. They made it appear that Goldberg won the "debate" and that Althouse was getting paid to shill Palin's book by thrusting it up into camera range.

DaLawGiver said...

How long do you think it will be until there's a box of wine or breasts reference on this thread?

Ron said...

Will Palin see this and ask Althouse to ghost 'The Vortex of Hope'? Will President Palin give Meade a cabinet position? Stranger things have happened...like Biden getting in The White House without being in the tour...

miller said...

Well, I can say that the commenters at bloggingheads.tv really do not like Althouse.

I suspect it's because she's not cheerleading MC President.

Not a one contradicted an argument. It was all "How dare you speak ill of President Jesus?"

Is this what passes for thought on the left today?

JAL said...

Yeah. All substance. All the time.

Not.

Ann Althouse said...

@miller Yeah. Feel free to go over their and kick their ass.

Ann Althouse said...

@Lawgiver I know. They cut it off right before I tell Michelle that she's delusional.

This is like the old Western plot where the good guy picks up an abandoned Indian boy and takes the kid into town, trying to see if anyone knows him. Everyone assumes he's on the side of the Indians (he usually has several axes to grind against that tribe himself) and our hero (in this case, heroine)ends up defending somebody he doesn't even like.

OK, Ann, you need to dust off your single-action Army .45 (Meade can help) and pick up some of your old buddies - Robert Vaughn is hiding out in a storeroom behind the hotel, Jim Coburn is bringing a knife to a gunfight down at the railhead, and Charlie Bronson is cutting wood for his breakfast at some homesteader's out of town...

Well, at least this edited clip includes Golberg's assertion that reality has a liberal bias.

Imagine if the WSJ ran the headline, "Reality has a conservative bias."

avwh said...

Nice, objective edit by Pravda, er, the NYT. They deserve to go financially bankrupt, to match their moral bankruptcy.

Unknown said...

BTW O'Reilly interviewed Palin and made the same point as Ann--why didn't you speak up to the handlers? Are you dumb?

miller said...

Let me just say that finding out how to register on bloggingheads.tv was an exercise in ... well, something frustrating and nasty.

It was like someone had encoded dithering.

I think Althouse's cruel neutrality worked in her favor. She didn't really care that much about either side and so just focused on the debate itself.

If they make a box of wine with breasts on it I will not have any reason to come out of my house.

So they "Couriced" Althouse. Well, unlike the Palin-Couric interview, we can easily watch the whole diavlog and make up our own minds.

The left needs to lie, which is what this distortion by editing is, to win. Just like the Climategate scam.

You only need to lie to win if you are wrong in the first place.

wv: coriq.....too funny!!!

I spotted Bob Wright at the cafe where I drink my afternoon coffee between teaching classes. Yes, he seems as insufferable in person as he does on the webcam, though it could also have something to do with the venue: Cafe Grumpy.

Scott said...

Michelle Goldberg @ 3:54: "Cconservative media criticism is essentially a criticism of the fact that reality, in my opinion, has a liberal bias."

What an incandescently smug, condescending, self-stroking, narcissistic viewpoint Michelle has. It's always amazing that leftists can say this kind of shit with a straight face.

Sprezzatura said...

"we can easily watch the whole diavlog"

We sure wouldn't want to miss a second. Otherwise we'd miss Althouse jabbering about... herself.

In the clip Michelle didn't seem to understand that her conversation partner was a duplicitous self promoter whose mind is always keeping score of and working to increase their attention attraction action.

Palladian,
thank you for that on Robert Wright. I feel the sme way about him.

Though I do wonder where I might get a jacket just like the one he's wearing in your picture. He may be insufferable, but I do like his taste in blazers. I feel the same about Andrew Sullivan.

Michele Goldberg, however, is a lesson in what the smartly attired woman should never wear.

Penny said...

"Reality is liberal biased." (so therefore the press is reporting factually).

This precious little pumpkin should find herself on the Thanksgiving table for that one.

Sorry, my mouth dropped open when I heard that. I thought of food.

Ann Althouse said...

@ Palladian Great photo of Wright!

Titus said...

I refuse to go on the NYTimes website.

It is commie and un American.

Thank you.

If Michelle believes that Obama doesn't need fact checking because he is Obama, there's nothing left to argue about.

It would be easier(and equally productive) to argue with a devout Christian the Divinity of Jesus.

True believers are entitled to their faith based beliefs. And there is certainly a chnance they're right.

It's just annoying when the left masquerades their religion as an intellectual exercise.

Palladian said...

Althouse, I was trying to get a non-motion blurred shot but he just wouldn't stop talking. Since one rarely sees a Bob Wright in the wild I had to take what I could get.

Penny said...

Geez. Why is everyone being so hard on Bob Wright?

Sure he's a bit nerdy, but in a very likable way, and really, nerds who not only talk, but can carry on hour long conversations about nearly any topic might even be misclassified as a "nerd".

I'd love to see anyone here who makes fun of Bob do the diavlog he did today with Steven Pinker.

JAL said...

Does Wright need a tailor?

Sleeves look a bit long.

Penny said...

OK, now I better do a Google on Bob Wright. I have no CLUE what his personal background is, so I suppose he might even be a Darwinian linguist too for all I know.

Wouldn't THAT be a hoot!

Wow.

That was like English, only... not.

Googled. Was my face red!

Haha Sitting here laughing at myself.

The day that using proper grammar becomes a prerequisite at this blog will be the day I'm no longer qualified to comment. Heck, I'll need to pack it in on the day commenting requires any capacity above and beyond the ability to spew CO2.

Anyway, I don't mind providing full time work for the grammar police, if they intend to pull me over for every infraction. Whatever floats your boat.

I absolutely agree. Ann made mincemeat of Michelle Goldberg. I thought the lady was close to tears at times.

And she probably walked away thinking that Ann was a secret Palin supporter -- and nothing could be further from the truth.

THAT is cruel neutrality.

Cheers,
Victoria

miller said...

Well of course Michele was near tears. Althouse was trying to stay on the issues while Michele was trying to make it about emotion and feelings and personal relationships and isn't that Palin icky? She's so unlike the dreamy Obama who wrote that nuanced Bildungsroman.

It was fun to watch Michele realize about 20 seconds in that she had walked into a cruelly neutral buzzsaw.

We have a meeting of the minds, then.

Haven't seen the whole diavlog but I love the way you held up Palin's book. It struck me as a sort of argumentum ad feminam -- both you and Palin look happier and prettier than Goldberg, who looks mean around the mouth when she talks.

Unknown said...

Can we stop with the disparaging comments on Ms.Goldberg's appearance? I personally think that she looks as cute as a box full of puppies.

That does not alter the fact that she is as dogmatic and inflexible as the guy who shouts about Jesus at lunch time in the park next to the County Court in Houston.
