Instant karma for the sleazeball who stomped on Christine O'Donnell.

Sheesh, I'm no expert at judging hotness for guys, but that guy has to be really low on the scale. Can you have a negative ranking?

Yuck.

Oh, and besides that awful photo, he's lame too.

The line from the story, "Kind of underwhelming, mostly sad, slightly desperate, and creepy, too", says it all for the people who feel obliged to slime her because, you know, she intimidates them.

Web can't be all that! I can't find a picture of Bill Sparkman in a Boy Scout uniform. Must be some connection to this situation - maybe he was found naked in the cemetary because these guys stole his Boy Scout uniform (because these guys are jerks) or more plausible, Christine O'Donnell took it - would confirm that she has always been some kind of crazy right-wing wacko representative of the Tea Party.

I think the idea is that "they" want O'Donnell to step forward and to clarify the story--to play in their cesspool.

Smoking gun is referring to it as a "(sexless) one-night stand". Meaning no, she didn't have sex with him.

Gawker apparently paid this sleazy guy for his account of the evening - and the most exciting story he could come up with was that they didn't have sex.

DaveW said...

The whole point is to imply that she's a slut. And it doesn't matter what the story actually says because people operate under impressions and this just reinforces the narrative that she's a no-count crazy/witch/slut.

There are some interesting dynamics this year. One is watching nominally republican guys like Crist (or Murkowski) get dumped and end up kinda sorta running as dems or indies with tacit dem support.

Then you have these republican women running and they're all attacked as essentially crazy in one way or the other. Haley (?) is a slut, O'Donnel is a crazy slut, Angle is an extreme crazy, the one in Connecticut is crazy because she was a wrestling promoter.

Nobody attacks guys as sluts. But with these women it is all but impossible for them to defend themselves. The attack leaves an impression or feeling with a large part of the electorate and that impression or feeling is fundamentally unfair but impossible for them to combat. Even when demonstrated false the impressions remain.

It's not exactly analogous but it reminds me of the near impossibility of Palin overcoming her existing narrative.

Remember the story several weeks ago about the Duke grad-ette who wrote a tell all critiquing her sexual encounters in college. She was not widely praised for her judgement but not vilified either. She sparked some discussion regarding "how would a similar literary effort be received from a male author?" Well, we have our answer.

Kind of like when Clinton passed really strict sexual harrasment laws where a CEO having sex with an underling is harrasment even if consensual because of the power structure and imbalance (ie because he is the boss he can fire her for not sleeping with him, even if he doesn't come out and say that she has to sleep with him).
And then he goes out and gets bjs from the intern. And feminists say that due to his position as a great democratic leader women should get out their knee pads and service him.
That kind of hypocricy?
But, as far as govts minding its business, like it or not govt is in our business, and has to be. Govts enforce laws, govt collect taxes etc. You may not like the particular way govt is getting in your business, but it's not realistic to expect that govt wont be in your business at all.

If she paid for sex, or had sex in public restrooms, sure.

MPH said...

Yes, the article is sleazy...but so is COD's hypocrisy.

As a private citizen, there is nothing wrong with what she did. But certainly there was lust in her heart and probably an intention to masturbate and do all the things she's made a public issue. Anyone who wishes to rule with political power over the citizenry deserves the embarrassment of being exposed a liar/hypocrite if indeed that is what they are.

Hoosier Daddy said...

Villified for what? Telling the world she's basically a slut? I mean if I was one of the guys considered lackluster I'd just say 'well consider the source'.

holdfast said...

If you go to the comments at Gawker and Jezebel, O'Donnell is getting all kinds of sympathy on this one. Typical comment is something like: "I don't like O'Donnell or her policies, but this is nothing but a failed, pathetic and gross attempt at "slut-shaming" by a douche-bag loser who is afraid of a little hair-down-there". And she's not really even a hypocrite since she made it clear she wasn't going to go all the way, and she didn't."

I think the whole story has actually humanized O'Donnell for a lot of younger women - they'd still never vote for her, but they are starting to catch on that allowing women politicians (even the scary conservative kind) to be picked on in public this way is bad for all women.

Everyone has lust in their heart, even people who say they should wait till marriage to have sex. THough she may have probably had the intent to masturbate if she didn't do it how ware you holding her accountable. Even more so, how are we determing probable intentions. If she didn't do something, there is no reason to hold her accountable for what she may have propably had in mind.
Also, some people who are for abstincece are for that because it's a better option (for them) or because they had problems in life caused by their desires. i.e. many former drug addicts become very abstemious people. Is she saying we should pass a law mandating that noone can have sex till they're married?

This guy is a lying sack of shit. He claims that he didn't have sex with her because she wasn't waxed. What guy turns down an otherwise attractive women because she didn't wax? Seriously, he is either gay, lying or both. He claims that she was lying naked in his bed but said she wasn't going to have sex with him.

Like there is not a lot of things you can do beyond sex. And any guy who has had many experiences with women knows that "we can do everything but have sex" is a promise not often kept.

The bottom line is the guy is claiming that a naked woman was in bed with him and rather than try to bang her or have other such fun, he rolled over and went to bed. Bullshit. Not going to happen. If he had said he played around with her and she wouldn't give it up and then he went to bed, I would believe him. But just roll over and not try at all or at least ride the rides that were open that night in O'Donnell land? Fuck no. He is lying his ass off.

Pure frat house bullshit. With any luck the sympathy generated over this will put O'Donnell in the Senate. And then this douche will always know he is the one who did it.

I was going to write something profound about this being a tactic used towards female conservatives over and over again, but Dave W pretty much beat me to the punch.

I'll add, though, that a lot of societies use sexual attacks to shame and control women (and the men that care about them). We saw it, for example, in Iraq pre-invasion (rape rooms). This tactic that the libs have used on female conservatives is basically a less direct version of this. They can't attack them physically (although some very openly fantasize about it- see Sandra Bernhart's big black brothers and Sarah Palin, or even, notably, a video about C.O'd that Althouse linked the other day where the first response from Seth McFarland was "I would mess that girl up" or something to that extent). So they use, or attempt to use, the same ideas, shaming and embarassment, through attacking their sexuality.

It's sickening.

LOL. "Bearded clam" for sure. Can you imagine how O'Donnell would shake up the old crooks and cronies in the "world's greatest deliberative body." It really is time, but the state that gave us the Biden nitwit for decades ain't goin' to be an instrument for change.

John said...

Don't worry Lyssa, I think this guy is going to find out what it means to be a "born again virgin". Every woman in America now thinks he is a creep. And Drudge has O'Donnell within 10 points of Coons, down from 19 just a week ago. Maybe the sympathy from this will put her over the top. If so, I hope gawker and this dirt bag get the blame.

Freeman Hunt said...

Why was "one night stand" in the smear story headline? A one night stand with no sex is like a square circle. It does not exist.

Not that this should ever have been a story under any circumstances. It shouldn't have. Just more leftist anti-feminism, but that's no surprise.

Anonymous said...

I'm a lot less worried about the guy, who's just a creep, than I am about the people who gave him a platform. Can you imagine a story like that getting traction against a male politician? Against a liberal woman?

Oh I forgot Whitman is a whore too.

What pisses me off about this is I know what's going on here and I still experience the feelings they're trying to induce. I didn't even go read the story, just skimmed a bit of stuff about it, and O'Donnell feels scummy to me. I guess I'm just the right generation (or demographic) to be 'receptive' to the message.

WTF is it with these people? If there is any justice ALL these women will win their races.

I can't recall this tactic being used in such a widespread way before. It's almost like they all passed around a memo on it. Maybe I just missed it before. But I have a daughter and it really pisses me off.

Honestly, reading this story made me like Christine O'Donnell a lot more.

My prior position had been, basically, "meh, she's a social conservative but at least she's against ObamaCare". But this makes her seem like... well, like a lot of my female friends. Plus she's cute as a button in that ladybug costume, which never hurts. :)
