I talk to Jacob Weisberg about his book "Palinisms."

Why "Palinisms" after his famous "Bushisms" — why not "Obamisms"? And many other questions:

If you'd like to buy the book, go here.

Because he's a liberal.

If you're trying to make a career of making fun of people when you yourself talk like Biggus Dickus, probably best to stay off Bloggingheads.

Well, that's lovely. Always room for another author clinging to Palin's parka. Good luck with the book.

(If I were a partisan ideologue, I'd go over to Amazon and do as so many liberal partisans do, rate the book a 1 then pan the shit out of it without actually buying or reading it.)

Joe Biden doesn't say that many odd things? Bullshit.

I'm still waiting for his book "Bonerisms"

What?

And he misses the fact that Biden is the MotherLode AND he is Vice-President? Second in line to be President.

And, like everyone else, goes after Palin, whose only crime was saying "Yes." when asked to run as a vp candidate. Oh - and she's an R and not a D.

As female politicians go - the despicable Barbara Boxer gets a pass - she's a D. But Palin, oh he must be so proud of himself coming up with this one.

Never mind that, syntax or not, she is nailing Obama to the wall every week. Calling it 100% like it is. And proven right every time. With a simple tool like Facebook. She can say it any way she wants. She knows what's real. It's what makes her so scary to guys like this. So fascinating.

I turned it off after he said about Palin - it's bad improvisation. It's like she's trying to stall while she's thinking of something to say.

Seriously? This president of ours drops more UMMMMS than the fucking Hanson brothers circa 1997.

But he's not stalling. He's just brilliant.

Really, why limit yourself to any one target? Part of the reason why the Bushisms so often a reach is that Weisberg only had one contributor and it wasn't enough. Call the book Pols Say the Darnedest Things and you've got a cast of thousands working for you.

These glasses are nearly indestructible, and they're not expensive. Everybody should stock up, immediately. You won't be disappointed.

Nit:

God creating an evolutionary process is different from intelligent design. One is God creating a process and letting it go. The other is directed. Palin saying that God created an evolutionary process is about as lose creation-wise as a person can get while believing in God at all.

Ah, now you're discussing the prayer "task from God". I'm sensitive to anyone claiming the authority of God for some human endeavor (it's a very bad thing, Revelation promises damnation for adding to the Word) and people who do it are generally very clear. I don't hear it in what she said.

Thanks to Althouse for posting her BHTV diavlog here.

The Althouse commentators should go over to BHTV and comment - they'd raise the IQ level by 20 points.

bagoh20 said...

One big reason he chose Palininsms is because - as Althouse has discovered, the woman is a goldmine. Biden may actually say more stupid things, but who is gonna buy a book about Biden, other than Biden. If there was such a book, and I was Obama, I'd keep it on my desk in the oval office as a kind of visual "shut up" to Joe.

Weisberg seems wedded to this idea that Palin wants creationism taught in schools. Less than a minute with Google turns up the quotes this idea is based on, here and a lot of other places as well. What she said was that she would not insist on prohibiting discussion of it should the subject arise in class discussion.

Alex said...

When Ann challenges Weisberg why no "Obama-isms", he immediately admits he's an ideologue and Obama is his god. How fucking pathetic.

your inability to see DaWon's brilliance through all the UMMMMS is your failing. At least give credit to TOTUS.

I wonder if he talks about how she can see Russia from her house.

Personally it seems to me that she would take this guy down in about a minute. Look at the way she has had this whole administration out there trying to justify all the things she has talked about that they have done and then lied to the people about. It turns out that she has been right every time. The only ones who can't see that are the professors and the reporters. The rest of us can see what she is saying while the professors are caught up in the semantics. She has shown herself to be the great communicator, not the president. You don't see her toting a teleprompter even when she speaks to a grade school class. And when you have the cabinet and the president and the speaker of the house and the senator majority leader all trying to respond to what she has pointed out in their legislation then seems to me that Mr Weisberg is peddlin BS in his book.

Darwin in _The Expression of Emotion in Men and Animals_, I remember, remarks that he heard Sydney Smith say placidly "I hear that dear old Lady Cork has been overlooked", and he made it quite clear to everyone that he meant the Devil had forgotten to take her, but how he did it Darwin could not say..

Memo to Palin & her die-hard supporters:

You are the best. Even liberals like Rich say so (see NYT, 11/21). Please run. Other GOP are a joke.

NB: I want be fair here. You will lose in each and every state.

The way things are going now it is a countdown until the Weisberg Liberal spinners go into a deep depression as they suddenly become self aware how incredibly irrelevant they have become. The internet has educated so many in the real goings on, that liberal loving lies no ,longer satisfy people. The authentic is King today. That explains the meteoric rise of Christy. It also explains why Palin will be nominated and elected. God help these liberals who don't become self aware enough to adjust their ridiculous spiels.

I wonder if Ann declares the money she makes on these book referrals to the IRS?

The problem with a potenial Bidenisms is really that there is not likely enough paper in the known universe to publish even a small printing. Bidens's chief talent, along with noting how clean some people may be, is to expound for a half hour at a time on absolutely nothing.

Ann Althouse said...

"I wonder if Ann declares the money she makes on these book referrals to the IRS?"

What a stupid question! Do you seriously think the Amazon Associates program doesn't report these payments to the IRS?

I do report all my income, but if I were going to cheat, that wouldn't even be a place where it is possible to cheat.

Here is an Omamaism:

" If I had to name my greatest strength, I guess it would be my humility. Greatest weakness, it's possible that I'm a little too awesome." --at the Al Smith Dinner

Now, he is trying to be sarcastic, but from what we have learned about him after the election, it's clear he actually believes it.

bagoh20 said...

Projection from the Geithner / Rangle camp. They love taxes, and want to make sure that everybody else pays them.

So, Ann, explain this to me. How is any of this to end if everybody is playing the same game?

You're campaigning relentlessly for quota handouts to women (feminism) and for even more money and power for lawyers. You live a haughty life removed from ever having to eat shit, compliments of tenure.

Where does the money come from to support your handout?

Your ass backward opposition to Palin makes me wonder if Palin isn't really the answer. I wonder if she doesn't scare you a bit.

She's not a member of the mandarin class like you. I think that the class arrogance is affecting your view of Palin, too.

Everybody's against constantly expanding government until their handout is threatened.

Politics today in America is almost entirely about delegitimizing and ridiculing your opponent and his or her views. The two go hand-in-hand.

That's the game. Find something even remotely controversial (or poorly worded/stated) that the other side does or says and run with it. Or take whatever public policy position they advocate and take it out of context.

It's all getting pretty silly, isn't it?

LL said...

Yeah, there just aren't enough stupid things coming from Joe Biden's mouth:

“Daddy is going to start to take the training wheels off in October -- I mean in next July, so you'd better practice riding,”

Super-smart Joe said that this week.

RC you can't be serious buddy. The comment section at boringheads is one of the most boring places you can go on the internets.

They would be much better off reading and commenting on your very cool blog.

You have some very interesting observations about miltary history and great movie review. Much preferable to pompous douchefest at boringheads.

You're allowed to say ummm alot when you are constructing thoughts as elaborate as Obama's. Every utterance is as if he was reading off every number in pi. You need to draw breaths every now and then.
You just don't understand because you're dumb.

As Hedley Lamar said in Blazing Saddles:
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Lesser beings just can't understand the sophistication. To them, Obama just uses his tongue prettier than a twenty dollar whore.

No, I'm not going to buy his "stinkin'" book. Palin is a dynamic leader and drives liberals bananas because they can't stop her success and popularity.

Obama is still on a Messiah Pedestal with liberals.

Jeff said...

jr565:

Love the Blazing Saddles reference. Another analogy from that classic:

Sheriff Obama walks up to the podium, says, "Excuuuuse me while I whip this out," and then the liberals faint as he pulls out the teleprompter.

This guy is a bully, protecting the status of his elite tribe. Ann reluctantly defends Palin. Perhaps Ann also enjoys her spot in the pantheon of those who know better, because, la-te-da, Ann also thinks she belongs in that elite tribe. But Ann wants to be a contrarian member. Remember the whole bit about ego and needing an editor? Well Ann, I read your blog when linked by Instapundit, and not just for your posts, but for the comments, which are oft times more insightful. It's the conversation which is important. Are we ever going to leave the middle school mentality of "you can't play in my tree house"?

That being said, I believe that Palin will do us, the country, more good, stimulating the conservatives to action than actually running for President. In the same way I was disappointed by Hilary's run for President. I think Hilary Clinton could have spent the next 20 or 30 years as the "Distinguished Senator from New York", and done a tremendous amount of good, for us, the country.

You miss the point of books by politicians. A pol has a book ghost-written, all his big money supporters buy a bajillion copies and send them to libraries (our little library must have two dozen copies each of Obama's books), and the pol pockets the royalty cash all legal like. Actually reading the book was never the point.

No prob. Fun new game next time I'm in Borders: relocate all of Weisberg's books to wherever the Libtards have relocated Bush's "Decision Points".

Or just toss them into the hollow of a display case.

This interview leaves me with several thoughts. I am reasonably certain that Weisberg does not speak for Sarah Palin. I don't think that weisberg is qualified to determine what "respectable opinion" is or is not. I don't really care what Mr Weisberg thinks or writes. Althouse saved it from being completely wasted time.
