Whatever happened to flashers? Any still around?

Sometime in the next 30 days we're going to see a spate of accusations against Rosie O'Donnell.

I feel bad for the other actors. I wonder if they'll see any money for their work. A lot of innocent people are getting burned because of this pervert.

He needs to counterclaim and bring the accusers into the open.

Although it's tempting to see this as some kind of moral decision by the studio, it's purely economic: Only a fool throws good money after bad.

Bringing things out into the open is probably not his best option at the moment.

He need his own pronoun to become a protected group.

It seems to be a creative orientation, like gays.

A lot of innocent people are getting hurt, so far.
It seems there are a multitude of film and TV projects cancelled or delayed.

Besides a collapse in the American audience.

Are you talking about all of the people who looked the other way for the last 30 (100?) years? I have no sympathy for them.

That is what got him in trouble in the first place.

Cancelling stuff appeases the mob by saying they're serious people.

It's what TV shows assure women all the time, for that matter.

It does not mean you're serious people. It means you're being had.

rhhardin said...

Contrast what men get, sports shows. There's no pretense that it's anything but entertainment.

Guys don't need the reassurance that they're serious people.

Can't they just reshoot his scenes with Christopher Plummer in the role?

C.K. financed the film himself. The only thing he didn't have money for was the distribution, which is why this is happening. HOWEVER - C.K. has released material in the past direct to the consumer. His Beacon Theater special was released in a pay-what-you-want format, if I recall correctly. He could still release this on his own website and through some public channels for $5 a copy. There are enough of his fans out there who don't care about his harassment claims that he would still make a decent amount of money.

The catch is that this movie is very different than a stand-up comedy routine. Watching the trailer it's some sort of Woody Allen homage. But give how Allen's fans excuse his past behavior, too, maybe it's still got a chance.

As Althouse pointed out, Louis CK never really hid his own foibles.

"A woman saying 'yes' to a date with a man is literally insane and ill-advised."

I hear about something like this and my first thought is, what if there's an actor who's been toiling away for years, waiting for his or her big break, and then they finally get a significant role in this movie. All their hard work is finally going to pay off, they are on the cusp of achieving their dreams . . . and then the universe says, "Oops, never mind, my bad."

It sounds like an interesting movie. I wonder if there's tasteful nudity to advance the plot. Women for some reason universally hate the premise of this movie .....It's easy enough to see how a middle aged or older man could be attracted to a seventeen year old girl, but only in Woody Allen movies will you find teen girls who are sensitive, perceptive, and wise beyond their years........Only the most special of very special men could even contemplate making such a relationship work. Well, it worked for Woody Allen. He's very special. Louis C.K. Is also special. Only a special kind of man could think that he could masturbate in front of relative strangers and feel no negative repercussions for such an act. Louis was special but not that special. He's no Harvey Weinstein.

Ann Althouse said...

Let Woody finance the distribution.

Ann Althouse said...

Maybe some of these guys should band together. Maybe Harvey should help.

Louis C.K. has also been cut from HBO's "Night of Too Many Stars." It appears they had one star too many.

is probably not his best option at the moment

It is if he stands by his actions and/or is innocent of the extreme allegations. The alternative is that he is guilty, or he is innocent and his competitors will publish narratives of their own invention and carry out a trial by press.

Narcissi: "...invited to emcee the White House correspondents donner [sic]?"

That is one helluva typo there.

Regarding all the sex abuse charges against so many men.
All of the rampant accusations may be true, but I doubt it.
There's a whiff of inquisition in the air.

This "sexual misconduct" category sounds kinda new..as opposed to the prior focus on assault, rape etc.
Consenting to Louis' dick display, laughing..and waiting till completion is a bit different setting of mastur-bition than Harvey pleading and threatening the woman when she was on a wire.
Louis should have stuck to the script and given them the vanilla three-way they were prepared for.

readering said...

i believe it needs to play in one theater for a week to be eligible for awards consideration. So maybe that will happen.

Diogenes: There's a whiff of inquisition in the air.

Ha, just a whiff?

The interesting thing is figuring out how this current sub-inquisition fits into the Greater Struggle Session that's been going on for several decades now.

Simple solution for Mr. CK:

Press Release:

"I was drunk, I don't remember wacking off in front of anyone, and I plan on living the rest of my life as a Gay American"

Hey, it's gotta work better than Harvey's NRA ploy.

“These stories are true,” C.K. says in a statement sent by his rep Lewis Kay. “At the time, I said to myself that what I did was okay because I never showed a woman my d–k without asking first, which is also true. But what I learned later in life, too late, is that when you have power over another person, asking them to look at your d–k isn’t a question. It’s a predicament for them. The power I had over these women is that they admired me. And I wielded that power irresponsibly.”

If they drum all of the pervs out of Hollywood, there's not going to be much left in the theaters or on television.

HoodlumDoodlum said...

Ask me to feel bad for these Hollywood/Media guys. Please ask me to.

Look, the Left was happy to treat relatively-powerless guys accused of sexual misconduct on college campuses with the presumption of guilt (their accusers having a "right to be beleived" after all) and fucking CHEERED when some of those accusers publicly trashed the guys (carrying a mattress, etc). Tell me now why those same Leftist-loving people have any claim to sympathy for getting one tiny sliver of the same kind of treatment they were HAPPY to subject any number of non-rich, non-celebrity "frat guys" to. Oh, is your privacy being invaded? Oh, are you suffering career and social costs because of possibly-baseless, possibly-inflated accusations you can't possibly defend against? Oh, are people insisting that you aren't even allowed to put forward a defense nor rely on "due process" nor "a presumption of innocence?" Welcome to the party pal.

I argued against it. I argued for the old way...and for my trouble was denounced as an ugly sexist rape apologist and/or supporter of rape culture. I lost, the nice people won. the Left won.

Enjoy your victory; you all certainly deserve it.

Let's see them pull all the Miramax films from distribution.

MayBee said...

This actually doesn't seem like the kind of thing where you need to pull distribution and production. There were no threats or criminality.
