"Stormy Daniels, the porn star whom President Donald Trump’s personal attorney acknowledged paying $130,000 just before Election Day, believes she is now free to discuss her alleged sexual encounter with Trump...."

AP reports.
[Her manager Gina] Rodriguez Rodriguez said her client will soon announce how and when she will tell her story publicly.
How and when, eh? I guess a deal needs to be made... artfully.

It has bothered me that she took a hush payment of $130,000 as that amount just doesn't round right. My guess is she was offered $100,000, then she said "No, I want that after taxes." So Cohen went up to $128,000, her being in the 28% tax bracket, then he said no, that looks too much like time plus expenses, so he threw in another $2,000.

And what was she doing at the Grammy Awards? I guess she's a singer.

So..Cohen withdrew the threat?

Classy chick. Porn actresses and gold-digging opportunists of all types can learn from her: If you want to monetize your talents/sex appeal/whatever, be sure to do so with someone famous. That way, even if you have signed a pesky NDA, you still can sell your story again and again and become a star.

As for rich guys, there's not much advice to offer -- you always will be irresistible to women and surrounded by yes-men, and if your ethics are not rock-solid (and if they are, you probably won't get rich so no prob) you will need Herculean self control to stay out of trouble.

Trump=Clinton (Bill that is). Successful and a future ball and chain for their respective parties

Folks, end FISAgate, Andy McCarty, VDH! Powerline boosting. In case you all have not noticed both sides are horribly tainted by some of the bad actors in each party. Does the stuff about Trump in the Dossier really seem that unlikely?? $130,000 in hush money to a prostitute and no big deal, because like, ClintonRiceObamalibatards are just as bad? Get a grip.

A time will come when revelations about Trump money laundering come pouring out and what will be your defense then? VDH has recently thrown Bush and Romney under the bus as failures. At least they tried to hold up the standards of their party and the office.

I read Powerline regularly and shake my head when Hinderaker always divides the country into good guys and bad guys. How about recognizing that we all have common interests and play on the same team?

I usually avoid Scott Adams, but take a minute to watch his Periscope on why people hate Trump (why conversely they hated Obama). He has hit it on the head: the failure of power without empathy.

Birkel said...

George W. Bush? You mean the guy who expanded federal spending and signed TARP? The guy who saw more Republicans de-register as Republicans than any other president? And you say VDH single handedly managed to throw GWB under a bus? I wish I had gotten the memo so that I could have driven that particular bus.

As for the money laundering, either show the evidence or STFU. You're just some Leftist talking point distributor with that nonsense.

Since not a single word of the Dossier has been proven correct, except that one dude took a trip to Russia, you'll have to try harder.

But don't worry, using the powers of the U.S. bureaucracy to deprive people of their civil liberties is completely kosher. It's just "FISAgate" and not an active operations to spy on American citizens in violation of their Fourth Amendment rights. What horse shit.

Yes, I'm concerned. If the President is engaging in immoral behavior that puts him at risk for compromise it needs to be exposed. Even if he was having sex with prostitutes while he was a candidate, he is still subject to blackmail, ridicule, embarrassment, etc. We elected a sleazeball and rogue, and we all want to be rid of his kind of rabble as soon as possible. I don't care how rich he may be, he's still lowlife riffraff.

She already spilled, in the In Touch interview back in 2011. She said the sex with Trump was “textbook generic” and “it was one position, what you would expect someone his age to do.” On the other hand, she did say Trump told her she was “beautiful, smart, just like his daughter” -- and what young woman doesn't like to hear tender post-coital words like those?

As to the nature of the tryst, she said “I actually don’t even know why I did it, but I do remember while we were having sex, I was like, ‘Please, don’t try to pay me.’”

I guess Trump later agreed to be billed on the installment plan.

From AP story:

'Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, believes that Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, invalidated a non-disclosure agreement after two news stories were published Tuesday: one in which Cohen told The New York Times he made the six-figure payment with his personal funds, and another in the Daily Beast, which reported that Cohen was shopping a book proposal that would touch on Daniels’ story, said the manager, Gina Rodriguez.

“Everything is off now, and Stormy is going to tell her story,” Rodriguez said.'

Hard to believe Michael Cohen (Trump's personal lawyer) is now morphing into the second coming of Michael Wolfe. Does he really need a book contract that much?

It doesn't make sense, unless Cohen didn't want her to be a distraction so close to the election, even if her assertions weren't true.

Even if that were the case, Cohen now deserves to be on Trump's shit list (assuming the story isn't just more fake news).

She said, in the interview, that she did not ask for payment, hence this is not prostitution. Or it can't be proven. Or its no more prostitution than every sort of other "arrangement" of its kind. There are all sorts of material considerations in these things. Willy Brown's ex mistress, for instance, who is likely to run for President in 2020, got her career start as a consideration for services rendered.

This area of inquiry gets extremely fuzzy very quick.

Personally, I think any man of means in a high position, who cannot limit himself to his wife, is well advised to acquire a discreet and pleasant mistress or two. Much less messy.

Its a very old alliance really, the Clinton administration restored the classic top-bottom political alliance against the middle. Very common throughout history.

As for Clintons "achievements" - look beneath the surface. Whats under that sign of Glass-Steagal? Qui bono?

Look instead to what judges, what regulators, what functionaries he brought in, and who they all made friends with. Look at, for instance, what Robert Rubin did.

Its ideally seen (because its so blatant) in places like Google - mega-billionaires enforcing radical ideological dogma. But the truth is that every single F1000 firm is exactly like that. I'm beginning to solidify my belief that Trump's presidency will generally be successful, in that he will leave the company in better shape than when he entered office but all of his good work will not help him gain a second term, because the electorate will be exhausted from the surfeit of drama.

His maelstrom of personal/personnel *noise* is tiring everyone out.

The successful opponent won't be some haranguing harpy like Warren or concern troll like Harris; rather, it'll be someone "normal", who plays a low-key foil to his high-dudgeon-ness but doesn't purport to doing much different governance-wise.

I wonder who will contend for that role because you can bet a few people are likely already eyeing that angle.

If the economy weathers the coming interest rate hikes though and things continue strong in the economy and foreign policy arenas and the GOP fares better than expected in the midterms, look for some clever Dem with limited profile to start calling for the release of Trump's tax records. I've long felt that the release of his tax records (that he promised to do, after all) would be for some vaguely outsider-ish Dem looking to build a zealous base what the birth certificate was for him to build his die-hard base in and outside of the GOP. As preparation for an insurgent run on a party nomination goes, Trump's use of the birth certificate issue was brilliant. Note how he dropped it, and when; seemed obvious that he didn't believe in it himself but had used it as a ruse. Anyone upset about that earned a big fat "SFW?" in response.

Who are the likely Dems that would seek that kind of establishment-breaking insurgency? Are there any?
