I liked it better when Trump called him "Rocket Man".

Should be, "the highly anticipated meeting between Kim Jong Un and me..."

It's a weird grammatical mistake that Trump makes all the time, in the weirdest of ways. Such as, "My primary consultant [on foreign affairs] is myself..."

They will all join hands and sing happy birthday to the boy from New York City. His present is a free Korean nation. Boy will the Global guys be angry.

Way to go, Chuck! I agree. It's very annoying. Surprising (to me) that Anne A. did not mention it.

You listening, Democrats? If you believe in peace then it’s time to rally behind the President.

🎶🎵All we are say-ay-ing is give peace a chance...

(I suppose most commentators here are too young to get the reference.)

Trump will play golf with Kim after Kim agrees to lose...oh yeah, he already did that.

Should be, "the highly anticipated meeting between Kim Jong Un and me..."

Most people nowdays would say "between Kim Jon Un and I".

Mike Sylwester said...

What's the grammatical rule that makes myself incorrect here?

madAsHell said...

Most people nowdays would say "between Kim Jon Un and I".

'I' has been back-ordered since the Obama administration.

So funny. This is an event of world historical importance and people are talking about Trump's grammar.

Terrifying nuclear problem soon to be averted. Highest Democratic priority: make sure Trump doesn't get credit. Urgent.

Five Most Wanted leaders of ISIS just captured!

Well, won't that just ruin the day of the LLRs and liberals?

Chuck, like all American-hating liberals, is very, very concerned with what the Montreal Gazette has to say about Trump.

The rest of us are focused on results, not grammar.

What does the Constitution say about Impeachment for Grammatical Reasons?

Rhetorical.

LLR and Noted Racist Commenter Chuck has already fully researched it and found it to be another dry hole for his dem/lefty allies.

I wonder about the food.

What kind of canapés will they serve.

If Mitt Romney were there they would serve his favorite meat: hot dogs. In those little pastry.

I guess they will go with Kim's favorite meat: just plain dog.

That would be the Trump-said-it rule.

It is a rather awkward construction, but I think Trump avoids "me" because "me" sounds weak. Others do things to "me". Only I can do things to myself.

The rule, though, is this- myself or other pronouns of this type are used as the objects of prepositions or verbs when the person is the subject of the clause in question. So, Chuck is correct. The other use is to emphasize the subject....I myself....Chuck himself....they themselves etc.

I think this upcoming meeting is a prelude to World War IV. (The Trump administration is World War III.) Hype is not diplomacy or an agreement. Even wishful thinking requires a brain, which Trump lacks. Two egotistical fatsos meeting is not good theater, except for possibly the theater of war, and the most sumptuous chocolate cake ever half-baked. Trump will offer to turn North Korea into a world class Trump golf course and country club befitting a dictator. Kim will offer to turn Trump into glass after a champagne toast to his greatness (Kim's not Trump's). Pissing off Kim, Trump will become the greatest pieces of broken glass the world has ever seen, pissing off even the greatest pieces of ass he's ever assaulted, or paid off. Stormy Daniels will replace Trump as president after the conflagration, becoming the first woman president of the United States, or what's left of it after the Trump fiasco. She will piss on Trump's effigy to make clear her contempt for a man who couldn't get it up with her or Kim when the time came to perform.

I suspect Singapore was chosen to build diplomatic relationships with Singapore. Surprise! Singapore is worried about creeping Chinese regional hegemony. And Singapore has a large, rich Chinese minority.

And now North Korea, which is a client of China, will be negotiating a peace with South Korea. And China and the U.S. will be there. And Singapore is an interested (as hell!) party to this whole thing.

Char Char Binks, Esq. said...

It should be "between Kim Jong-un and my own self".

Kevin said...

“I suspect Singapore was chosen to build diplomatic relationships with Singapore.“

It was chosen in part because it was within the range of North Korea’s planes.

There wouldn't be an announcement of a high profile meeting unless there was an agreement already in late-draft at least.

I wonder if Trump got into an Ivy League university because of his grammatical knowledge, or has that knowledge because he went to an Ivy.

There will be a peace deal. It will be sealed by Trump promising to build a truly world-class golf course outside Pyongyang. The Dems will sieze on this as evidence of Trump using the office to enrich himself and immediately file articles of impeachment.

It's not often that I see a tweet and get such a range of mixed emotions. Paramount over it all is the possibility that this could be the first solid move toward an end to the Korean War. There's also the possibility that Kim is up to something.

Regardless, I'll call it right now: there will be a Starbucks or a McDonalds (or both) in Pyongyang by 2028.

PS - trying to wrap my head around something here...if you're Kim and you honestly, sincerely just want to be done with the whole thing, what would you need to do, both domestically and diplomatically? What if he tells POTUS that he wants to end his own regime, begin the move toward reconciliation, open the borders, etc, but in return, wants immunity from international law not only for himself, but, oh, lets call it twenty of his closest supporters?

What then?

tcrosse said...

There's always the precedent Hillary Clinton set with Gaddafi.

Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney on Thursday referred to Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., as "Songbird John" and said torture worked on the former POW.

McInerney, during an interview on Fox Business Network, was slamming McCain's refusal to support CIA director nominee Gina Haspel over her past work at the agency involving enhanced interrogation techniques that are considered torture.

"The fact is, is John McCain — it worked on John. That's why they call him 'Songbird John,'" McInerney said.

The Demilitarized Zone has been the focus of treachery and betrayal of the peace between trained American Army killers and the dedicated Communist Revolutionaries killers who are under mind control from their Evil WarLords. Nothing good ever happens there. It is the first place to be removed.

Kim has agreed to become a normal country because he trusts Trump and somehow he knows that Trump's button works and his doesn't. So Kim is the one who needs to stay away from the Marxist power that hovers around the "Peace House." Kim may never go back there again.
